Gene Symbol: POR (Human)Other Aliases: CPR, CYPOR, DKFZp686G04235, FLJ26468, P450R
Refseq IDs: NM_000941
Description: P450 (cytochrome) oxidoreductase
This gene encodes an endoplasmic reticulum membrane oxidoreductase with an FAD-binding domain and a flavodoxin-like domain. The protein binds two cofactors, FAD and FMN, which allow it to donate electrons directly from NADPH to all microsomal P450 enzymes. Mutations in this gene have been associated with various diseases, including apparent combined P450C17 and P450C21 deficiency, amenorrhea and disordered steroidogenesis, congenital adrenal hyperplasia and Antley-Bixler syndrome.

Gene Symbol: NPM3 (Human)Other Aliases: PORMIN, TMEM123
Refseq IDs: NM_006993
Description: Nucleophosmin/nucleoplasmin 3
The protein encoded by this gene is related to the nuclear chaperone phosphoproteins, nucleoplasmin and nucleophosmin. It is highly homologous to the murine Npm3 gene. Based on the structural similarity of the human NPM3 gene product to nucleoplasmin and nucleophosmin, NPM3 may represent a new member of this gene family, and may share basic functions with the molecular chaperones.

Description: Porcupine homolog (Drosophila)
This gene belongs to the evolutionarily conserved porcupine (Porc) gene family. Genes of the Porc family encode endoplasmic reticulum proteins with multiple transmembrane domains. Porcupine proteins are involved in the processing of Wnt (wingless and int homologue) proteins. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been observed.

Gene Symbol: TMEM123 (Human)Other Aliases: KCT3, PORIMIN, PORMIN
Refseq IDs: NM_052932
Description: Transmembrane protein 123
This gene encodes a highly glycosylated transmembrane protein with a high content of threonine and serine residues in its extracellular domain, similar to a broadly defined category of proteins termed mucins. Exposure of some cell types to anti-PORIMIN (pro-oncosis receptor inducing membrane injury) antibody, crosslinks this protein on the cell surface and induces a type of cell death termed oncosis. Oncosis is distinct from apoptosis and is characterized by a loss of cell membrane integrity without DNA fragmentation. This gene product is proposed to function as a cell surface receptor that mediates cell death.

Refseq IDs: NM_005041, NM_001083116
Description: Perforin 1 (pore forming protein)
The protein encoded by this gene has structural and functional similarities to complement component 9 (C9). Like C9, this protein creates transmembrane tubules and is capable of lysing non-specifically a variety of target cells. This protein is one of the main cytolytic proteins of cytolytic granules, and it is known to be a key effector molecule for T-cell- and natural killer-cell-mediated cytolysis. Defects in this gene cause familial hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis type 2 (HPLH2), a rare and lethal autosomal recessive disorder of early childhood.

Refseq IDs: NM_000190, NM_001024382
Description: Hydroxymethylbilane synthase
This gene encodes a member of the hydroxymethylbilane synthase superfamily. The encoded protein is the third enzyme of the heme biosynthetic pathway and catalyzes the head to tail condensation of four porphobilinogen molecules into the linear hydroxymethylbilane. Mutations in this gene are associated with the autosomal dominant disease acute intermittent porphyria. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described.

Refseq IDs: NM_003504, NM_001178010, NM_001178011
Description: Cell division cycle 45 homolog (S. cerevisiae)
The protein encoded by this gene was identified by its strong similarity with Saccharomyces cerevisiae Cdc45, an essential protein required to the initiation of DNA replication. Cdc45 is a member of the highly conserved multiprotein complex including Cdc6/Cdc18, the minichromosome maintenance proteins (MCMs) and DNA polymerase, which is important for early steps of DNA replication in eukaryotes. This protein has been shown to interact with MCM7 and DNA polymerase alpha. Studies of the similar gene in Xenopus suggested that this protein play a pivotal role in the loading of DNA polymerase alpha onto chromatin. Multiple polyadenlyation sites of this gene are reported.
