Gene Symbol: GBA (Human)Other Aliases: GBA1, GCB, GLUC
Refseq IDs: NM_000157, NM_001005741, NM_001005742, NM_001171811, NM_001171812, XM_005245087, XM_005276746
Description: Glucosidase, beta, acid
This gene encodes a lysosomal membrane protein that cleaves the beta-glucosidic linkage of glycosylceramide, an intermediate in glycolipid metabolism. Mutations in this gene cause Gaucher disease, a lysosomal storage disease characterized by an accumulation of glucocerebrosides. A related pseudogene is approximately 12 kb downstream of this gene on chromosome 1. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding the same protein.

Gene Symbol: GBA2 (Human)Other Aliases: SPG46
Refseq IDs: NM_020944, XM_005251525, XM_005251526, XM_005251527, XM_005251528
Description: Glucosidase, beta (bile acid) 2
This gene encodes a microsomal beta-glucosidase that catalyzes the hydrolysis of bile acid 3-O-glucosides as endogenous compounds. Studies to determine subcellular localization of this protein in the liver indicated that the enzyme was mainly enriched in the microsomal fraction where it appeared to be confined to the endoplasmic reticulum. This putative transmembrane protein is thought to play a role in carbohydrate transport and metabolism.

Gene Symbol: GBA3 (Human)Other Aliases: CBG, CBGL1, GLUC, KLRP
Refseq IDs: NM_020973, NM_001128432, NM_001277225, NR_102355, NR_102356, NR_102357
Description: Glucosidase, beta, acid 3 (cytosolic)
Cytosolic beta-glucosidase (EC 3.2.1.21) is a predominantly liver enzyme that efficiently hydrolyzes beta-D-glucoside and beta-D-galactoside but not any known physiologic beta-glycoside, suggesting that it may be involved in the detoxification of plant glycosides.[supplied by OMIM]

Products:

Gene Symbol: GBAS (Human)Other Aliases: NIPSNAP2
Refseq IDs: NM_001483, NM_001202469
Description: Glioblastoma amplified sequence
Chromosomal region 7p12, which contains GBAS, is amplified in approximately 40% of glioblastomas, the most common and malignant form of central nervous system tumor. The predicted 286-amino acid protein contains a signal peptide, a transmembrane domain, and 2 tyrosine phosphorylation sites. The GBAS transcript is expressed most abundantly in heart and skeletal muscle. GBAS protein might be involved in vesicular transport.
